Dog Trainer Apprentice

Job Summary:

Obedience Matters is looking for a dependable, motivated, and compassionate Dog Trainer Apprentice to support our team in delivering high-quality training and care. This is a hands-on role where you’ll assist the lead trainer during lessons, help walk dogs, clean kennels, and ensure dogs are safe, comfortable, and well cared for. You’ll gain valuable experience in real-world obedience training while learning how to support both dogs and their owners through consistent, respectful, and reliable practices. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the lead trainer during private and group training sessions.

  • Walk, handle, and care for dogs of various sizes and temperaments.

  • Clean and maintain kennels and training areas to ensure a safe, organized environment.

  • Support with preparing training equipment, supplies, and setups for sessions.

  • Observe and reinforce training strategies under supervision.

  • Monitor dog behavior and report any concerns or patterns to the lead trainer.

  • Communicate with clients in a professional, respectful manner.

Qualifications:

  • A genuine love for animals.

  • Desire to help people.

  • Honest, reliable, and willing to learn and contribute.

  • Proven experience as a professional dog trainer.

  • Comfortable working with dogs of different breeds, sizes, and temperaments.

  • Calm, observant, and proactive in dynamic or challenging environments.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Physically capable of handling active dogs and assisting outdoor sessions in various conditions.

Work Schedule:

  • Part-time or full-time. 

  • Looking for someone who can consistently commit to a weekly schedule that aligns with the lead trainer’s availability and training sessions. Final schedule will depend on a mix of assisting with training sessions, walking dogs, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

  • Weekend availability may be requested depending on demand.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hourly base pay + commission.
